Vintage POWELL PERALTA CHRIS SPEYER skateboard deck independent trucks 1992 OLD
Vintage Powell Peralta "Chris Speyer" plaid deck with Independent Trucks and Spitfire 99 wheels! Cleaning some stuff out, and came across this little vintage gem! You are looking at a super rare Chris Speyer plaid deck with Independent Trucks and Spitfire wheels. The deck is in good shape, and I took lots of photos to show the wear. This deck was used, but the board is in really good shape overall.
As you know, not many early 1990's (or 1980's) decks survived getting used by the kids, but every so often a kid would invest in a deck and just not abuse them. On this complete set up the truck bolts are rusty, and bent. You will likely pull those off in a complete restoration. The bearings are rusty too, and roasted. They turn, but there are not ride ready. The deck has wear, but the photos tell the story. There appears to be oil on the griptape (it appears wet, but it hasn't dried in days so that's got to be oil) and there is scraping on the tail. No delamination, which is a relief, which means in was not damp in the garage it was stored in.Overall, it's a nice deck but there might be a special treat under the grip tape. My research shows there should be a "Speyer" Slayer logo under the tape. I would NOT pull the tape off as you could ruin the deck if you do not know what you are doing. Save that for a professional restorer.
Overall, this is a wall hanger for someone with love for a 1990's deck from their childhood. It's ready to ride if you replace the bearings but judging from what I see I think it's too rare to return to the streets. Put this puppy on the mantle and tell your kids about what it was like to grind "back in the day"!
